Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall betting is banned. Eight casinos are based in a relatively small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect area, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are supposedly required to pass, there are ways around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau gambling hall, highlights 150 one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel compound that features many luxuries on top of the gambling den, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 table games.
