Cambodia Casinos

There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall gaming is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent area, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and though visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of many borders.

The first Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling hall, contains 150 slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel building that features many luxuries accompanying the casino, which houses ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
